Plans in place for new Everhome Suites in Hutto

Plans are in place for a new location of Everhome Suites, a hotel brand by Choice Hotels International, in Hutto.

The gist: The new hotel is expected to reach over 54,000 square feet, with construction on the project scheduled to begin in July, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. However, the hotel isn't expected to open until 2027.

Everhome Suites typically feature fully equipped kitchens, on-site laundry and a 24-hour market.

The company recently opened a new location in Bastrop, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

Casa do Brasil to open in former Round Rock Cork & Barrel Pub this summer

A Brazilian steakhouse chain is set to expand to Round Rock this summer.

What you need to know: Casa do Brasil will open in a space formerly home to the Cork & Barrel Pub in Round Rock, future general manager of the location Ali Momin confirmed to Community Impact via email.

About the business: The property was sold in a bankruptcy auction earlier this year. Filings show the buyer was Maurice Rosenstein, the same owner of the Casa do Brasil location in Waco.

Central Health expands naloxone distribution machines across Travis County

Central Health is aiming to make a lifesaving opioid antagonist more accessible to Travis County residents.

The Travis County hospital district plans to install 13 new naloxone distribution units in Austin, Pflugerville, Bastrop, Del Valle and Manor between April and September.

What you need to know: Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is a fast-acting medication used to stop and reverse an opioid overdose and death from occurring, according to Central Health information. The county’s 45 current and future distribution units include outdoor vending machines, wall-mounted dispensers and newspaper-style kiosks.

Over the next six months, Central Health is slated to open distribution units at CommUnityCare Health Centers and Integral Care—the county's mental health authority. The organization will install four units at the Travis County Jail in Del Valle.

The impact: From 2023 to 2024, drug related-accidental deaths decreased by around 22%, while fentanyl-involved deaths fell by about 36%.

Central Health has distributed more than 3,200 free boxes of naloxone to community members, totaling over 6,400 doses, from October to March, according to Central Health data.
