Grapevine-Colleyville ISD trustees approved updates to the district’s intradistrict transfer policy, including adding a one-time elementary school transfer for students impacted by the closures of Bransford Elementary and Dove Elementary.

The board approved the updates, which take effect for the 2026-27 school year, by a 5-2 vote during the July 27 meeting, with trustees Shannon Braun and Kathy Florence-Spradley voting against.

The details: As part of the board approval, the GCISD administration can review a family's special circumstances transfer request for the 2026-27 school year, provided the family had a student in kindergarten through fourth grade during the 2025-26 school year. To qualify, the request must be submitted within the 2026 transfer window, and it may be granted as long as it does not make enrollment untenable for the grade level and campus selected, according to district documents.

Additionally, the updated policy will allow a one-time intradistrict transfer for students. The policy would allow families to transfer students to the feeder pattern based on the address of a grandparent rather than their residence.

A business offering indoor sandboxes, Little Diggers, plans to open new locations in Colleyville and Plano this year.

What they offer: The space has an indoor sandbox with more than 1,200 square feet for children ages 7 and under to play in, said Brooklyn Ogburn, the co-owner of the Colleyville and Plano locations. Within the play spaces, there are hundreds of construction-themed toys, including custom-made Sand Stacker and Tower Blocks.

Additionally, Ogburn said each location will have two birthday party rooms that have their own dedicated sandboxes.

Westlake officials announced that a data center will be constructed within town limits in a social media post July 29.

What's happening? The proposed data center will be located south of the town’s existing pump station at 13590 Denton Highway, also known as US 377.

The location will be near the Marshall Ridge, Marshall Ridge Point and Center Stage housing and mixed-use developments, which are located in Keller, according to previous reporting.

Westlake officials said the data center will be 1,200 yards away from the nearest Westlake home. However, the development will back up to Llano Court in Keller.

The details: According to the town’s news release, the planned campus is expected to use 54 million gallons of water per year, which is the equivalent of the usage of one of Westlake’s existing corporate campuses. The data center system will operate without any water for roughly 85% of the year, according to the town's website on the project.
