Cibolo's public works department is ready to reconstruct three local streets.

The overview: At the Aug. 26 Cibolo City Council meeting, City Manager Wayne Reed said work on the fiscal year 2025 Street Maintenance Package 2 will begin in September to reconstruct Firebird Run, Silver Wing and Town Creek Road.

Work on Silver Wing has an estimated start date of Sept. 8, Reed said, while the estimated start date for Town Creek Road is Sept. 22. Reed said the estimated start time for Firebird Run will be sometime in November.

Council approved a $3.1 million contract with D&D Construction for the streets package July 8. The streets will be constructed using FY 2025 certificate of obligation bonds, according to agenda documents.

A statewide pizza franchise has expanded to Northeast San Antonio.

What you need to know: On Sept. 3, Crust Pizza Co. opened at 813 Cibolo Valley Drive, Ste. 170. The franchise is operated by franchisees Derek Campbell, Nathan Howe Robbins and Jay Tompkins.

What they offer: Crust Pizza Co. serves Chicago-style pizza along with pastas, salads and flatbread sandwiches.

A chain mattress store is continuing to shut down its locations across Texas, including one in North San Antonio.

What you need to know: The Factory Mattress storefront at 21918 Hwy. 281, Ste. 101, near Stone Oak is set to close its doors “whenever inventory runs out,” a member of the company’s liquidation team said.

As previously reported by Community Impact, several Austin locations have already closed due to its parent company filing for bankruptcy earlier this summer.

Registered under Southwest Mattress Sales, they filed for bankruptcy through the Texas Western Bankruptcy Court, Austin Division, on June 7.

There are three more locations in and around the San Antonio area, so these are set to close in the same fashion, the liquidation team said.

Zooming in: Customers can choose from a wide selection of mattresses, bed frames, lounge chairs and pillow accessories at Factory Mattress, according to their website.

Thompson Safety, a provider of fire protection, first aid and safety services, acquired A1 Shiner, a Texas-based fire protection company with locations across Texas, on Aug. 13.

The details: According to a news release, the acquisition expands Thompson Safety’s footprint in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, providing a one-stop shop for workplace safety.

Thompson Safety offers a wide variety of safety equipment and services, including first aid supplies, personal protective equipment, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, fire alarms, fire hoses and emergency and exit lighting.

The acquisition has added several new fire services, such as fire suppression and fire alarms, according to a news release. It also gives Thompson Safety’s current first aid and safety customers access to more fire protection solutions, while A1 Shiner customers will gain access to Thompson’s first aid and safety services.
