Schertz approves name for new 8.83-acre park

Schertz City Council approved the name “Meadow Run Park” for a new 8.83-acre park in the northern part of Schertz on March 17.

The park’s name—recommended to the council by the city’s parks and recreation advisory board—was inspired by the area’s “openness” and “meadow-like qualities,” according to agenda documents.

The details: The board followed the city’s naming policy, which encourages park properties to be named based on ecological, historical and geographical features. Horizon Park and Northview Park were two of the other names up for consideration, per agenda documents.

Meadow Run Park will feature an assortment of amenities, including:

  • A playscape
  • A picnic pavilion
  • Two sports courts
  • Two pickleball courts
  • A practice soccer field and baseball field

The land is located along Parklands Way and adjacent to the Parklands Estate. There will be on-street parking and a future off-street parking lot, according to the city's Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Master Plan.

Northside ISD approves targeted improvement plans for 12 campuses

As part of a Texas Education Agency requirement, the Northside ISD board of trustees approved a series of campus targeted improvement plans, or TIPs, for 12 campuses throughout the district March 24.

These TIPs are developed for any campus that receives an F rating, consecutive D ratings or if a campus is a Comprehensive Support and Improvement campus during the TEA’s annual A-F accountability ratings.

The overview: According to district documents, there are eight elementary schools, one middle school and three high schools that require TIPs. During the presentation, Janis Jordan, deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction, laid out the components of a TIP, which includes a school improvement strategy, instructional support strategies, support and capacity building, performance management and stakeholder feedback.

Looking ahead: The district will continue implementing the TIPs across the campuses for the rest of the school year, with a goal of removing the campuses from TIP status and preventing them from moving into TAP status.
