The first public air taxi test in Texas debuted in Fort Worth Sept. 10 with an audience that included U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, Sen. Ted Cruz and numerous federal, state and regional leaders.

The takeaway: The Texas Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration, officially launched Project Nexus at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport. The project is a pilot program for electric vertical takeoff and landing, or eVTOLs.

The initiative will bring together federal, state and regional transportation leaders with aviation manufacturers and operators to begin testing how advanced air mobility can be safely integrated into the nation’s transportation system, according to a news release.

“For those of y'all who are old enough to remember 'The Jetsons,' I remember flying cars and we’re at the verge of seeing flying cars,” Cruz said. “We’re at the verge of air taxis and drones and transportation being transformed.”

Keller ISD voters will choose between three candidates for the KISD, Place 6 seat, which will be on the ballot for the Nov. 3 election.

What you need to know: The candidates running for the position are Barbara Brewer and Tommie Johnson. Charles Randklev previously held the Place 6 seat, which he vacated after running for Keller City Council in May, according to previous reporting.

Candidates were asked to keep responses within 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

What else? Oct. 5 is the last day for residents to register to vote, according to the Texas Secretary of State website. Early voting will take place from Oct. 19-30.

In November, Tarrant County voters will elect three individuals to three at-large positions on the Tarrant Appraisal District board of directors.

What’s on the ballot: There are four candidates vying for Place 1 on the board: Sayeda Bilqees Syed, Rebecca Hardy, Phyllis Grissom and Byron Haynes. Eric Morris, who currently holds Place 1, is not running for re-election.

Place 2 is held by Callie Rigney, who is also not seeking re-election. Marshall Hobbs, Paul Stockard, Cary Cheshire and Ambika Sharma have all filed for the position, based on appraisal district documents.

Two candidates filed for Place 3: incumbent Matt Bryant and John Adams.

What else: To vote in the Nov. 3 election, individuals must register by Oct. 5.

Four candidates are running for Texas lieutenant governor—the second-in-command to the governor—in the Nov. 3 election.

What's happening: Libertarian Anthony Cristo, Democrat Vikki Goodwin and Green Party candidate Kevin McCormick are challenging Republican incumbent Dan Patrick, who is seeking a fourth term.

The lieutenant governor leads the Texas Senate and can exercise the powers of the governor if the governor dies, resigns, is removed from office or is absent from the state, according to the Texas State Historical Association.

How we got here: Patrick won his Republican primary race in March, while Goodwin advanced to the general election after beating another Democrat in a May primary runoff, Community Impact reported. Cristo and McCormick were selected as their parties' respective candidates during nominating conventions in April.

Looking ahead: Early voting in the midterm election runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
