PREVIEW: League City to align food truck policies with new state law, consider $1.8M drone as first responder contract

Following the Texas 89th Legislature’s passing of House Bill 2844, known as the Food Truck Freedom Bill, food trucks in League City will no longer need a permit from the city to operate.

However, the city hopes to preserve its authority to only allow food trucks to operate for special events or in a dedicated food truck park.

The details: Per HB 2844, as of July, all permitting for mobile food vendors will be administered by the state, not local cities, according to city documents.

Why it matters: League City City Council will discuss how to align its current policies regarding food trucks with the changes in state law at its July 14 meeting.

Put in perspective: In 2024, City Council voted to update its city ordinances to only allow food trucks in League City for special events or in a food truck park, meaning food trucks that are permanently parked on private property, such as at a gas station, would no longer be allowed, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

Participants of the survey will help identify traffic hotspots, understand how congestion affects varying road-users and inform future planning and investment decisions, per the news release.

One more thing: The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete, according to the H-GAC website, and will close for submissions July 15.
