The Bellaire Culture and Arts Board is seeking community feedback on two refined design concepts for a new city logo.

Zooming in: On Sept. 21, Bellaire City Council unanimously advanced the designs to a 30-day public comment period that runs until Oct. 21. Residents can submit their preferences and feedback online.

The specifics: The two concepts represent the proposed primary city logo or seal at this phase of the project:

• The first concept features the city's trolley by itself.

• The second concept depicts the trolley in a Bellaire-inspired environmental setting.

The designs were selected from over 300 submissions received through a crowdsourced contest on the creative platform 99designs. The contest cost less than $1,900 and was funded by proceeds from the board's local cookbook and arts festival fundraisers rather than taxpayer funds.

Stay tuned: Once the public comment period closes, the Arts Board will review the feedback and return to City Council with a final recommendation.

Connect to Functional Health is set to open a new clinic along Bissonnet Street on Sept. 24, according to an official social media post.

What to expect: Led by certified nurse practitioner Christi Roquemore-Gordy, the clinic treats a range of digestive diseases and conditions, including Crohn’s Disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, or SIBO.

The clinic additionally specializes in other conditions connected to digestion such as autoimmune disease, adrenal imbalance, hormone imbalance, thyroid issues and more.

Something to note: Connect to Functional Health’s grand opening event is slated to occur between noon and 3 p.m., followed by an open house event later in the evening, per its social media.

Houston approved using some of its homeless funding to address critical needs such as mental health, substance use and immediate medical concerns.

The overview: At the Sept. 23 meeting, Houston City Council authorized the city to provide $667,540 from its End Street Homelessness funds for the Houston Recovery Center, which will help up to 600 individuals annually. The services include:

• 24/7 operations of 34 beds for homeless individuals

• Supportive services to address mental health needs, immediate medical concerns and case management

• Substance use treatment

• Pathways to stable housing

The initial agreement began in August 2025, and the new amendment extends through September 2027.

The local impact: The Houston Recovery Center is a sobering center that acts as an alternative to jail. It provides a short-term stay for individuals to sober up, and most stay for 4-6 hours, according to the center.

A new agricultural complex is opening along Hwy. 288 with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Farm will be located about three miles from Reliant Park.

The overview: The Farm, which stands for Furthering our Agriculture and Ranching Mission, will offer 1 million square feet to support Texas youth, agriculture, education and Western heritage, according to a Sept. 17 news release from Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The complex will complement the Rodeo's longstanding home at Reliant Park, according to the news release.

The Harris County Commissioners Court approved several funding measures and resolutions during its Sept. 22 meeting. Key decisions from the meeting include:

• Approval of eight escrow agreements for the Harris County Flood Control District to fund flood mitigation projects in multiple watersheds

• Allocation of $181,105 from the general fund to six community organizations to provide meals to homebound senior and disabled residents

• Authorization to apply for a grant to refurbish Tom Bass Park, which could receive $30 million in total funding

• Allocation of $2 million from a state grant to improve trails and amenities at Doss Park

• Approval of 15 resolutions, including recognition for Hispanic Heritage Month and Pet Wellness Month
