PISD to contribute funds to Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone for Dallas Stars Arena

Plano ISD’s board of trustees approved district participation in the new Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, or TIRZ, to partially fund an incoming Dallas Stars arena.

Deputy Superintendent Johnny Hill provided a presentation about the new zone to the board June 23.

What you need to know: A TIRZ funds improvement projects within a defined area with tax revenue growth, per previous reporting.

The details: Some benefits from the new zone for the district include:

  • More Career and Technology Education opportunities for students in the district’s boundaries
  • Graduations within district boundaries at a new venue
  • Access to a professional facility for students and staff
  • Property value increases to strengthen the district’s long-term tax base
  • Potential future partnerships for students and the community

Looking forward: The district will determine a cap on its total contribution before the agreement begins, Hill said.

Pilates studio inLIFE Wellness is set to open a new location on the Richardson border later this year.

The details: According to its website, inLIFE offers a blend of reformer Pilates, barre and dynamic strength classes, including infrared red light Pilates and fusion classes. InLIFE currently has studios across North Texas, including locations in Frisco and McKinney.

Six Flags Over Texas “Tormenta Rampaging Run” to now open July 9

Six Flags Over Texas has announced the new opening date for its first “giga dive coaster as July 9.

The new coaster was originally scheduled to open June 26, but was postponed because commissioning and test taking took longer than expected, per previous reporting.

The details: The Tormenta Rampaging Run reaches 309 feet above ground and has a 285-foot drop, according to the Six Flags website. Riders will be going at 87 miles-per-hour on a ride spanning more than four thousand feet.

1. Allen police chief shares update on city's automated license plate reader program

The Allen Police Department uses automated license plate readers, or ALPRs, as a tool to enhance public safety, according to Police Chief Steve Dye. The readers can support patrol operations and assist in criminal operations by identifying vehicles associated with outstanding warrants, criminal investigations, Amber Alerts and other law enforcement purposes.

2. Aveda closes Stonebriar Centre location in Frisco

Aveda offered health and beauty services and body care. It offered products for hair, skin and more. Aveda products will still be available online.
