New McKinney ordinances regulate vehicle camping, restrict sleeping in downtown

🚫 McKinney’s enacting new ordinances that will limit where people can sit, lie down or sleep in certain parts of downtown and the rest of the city.

What happened: McKinney City Council members passed the two ordinances during an Oct. 21 meeting more than a month after they were tabled. One ordinance would make it unlawful to lie down or sit in certain areas of downtown McKinney and another ordinance would make it unlawful to sleep in a vehicle overnight in certain areas of the city.

Council members voted 6-1 to approve the downtown-specific ordinance with council member Justin Beller voting against the motion. Council members voted 5-2 to approve the second ordinance regarding camping citywide with Beller and council member Geré Feltus voting against the motion.

More information: The ordinances are set to take effect after official posting, according to city officials. Both ordinances were passed with sunset clauses, meaning they will expire Oct. 21, 2026 if an extension is not approved by council members.

Page 3 Eatery debuts Indian cuisine, mocktails in south McKinney

🍽️ Page 3 Eatery is now opening and serving Indian cuisine at Hub 121 in McKinney, and a grand opening event is planned for Oct. 24.

The specifics: The menu at Page 3 Eatery includes a variety of Indian cuisine, including:

  • Street-style chaat
  • Grilled sandwiches
  • Frankies, a type of wrap
  • Kebabs
  • Mocktails

Quote of note: “Think of it as an Indian-style coffee shop where conversations flow as easily as the mocktails, and every bite feels like a celebration," business representatives Anshul Singhal and Vipan Makkar said in an email.

Avendale Painted Tree residential community finishes development in north McKinney

🏡 Development work on Avendale Painted Tree, a build-to-rent neighborhood, was completed in early September, according to a news release.

The gist: The project by Colorado-based Avanta Residential includes 276 residences with one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom floor plans in various styles, the release states. The community, which is located in the Lakeside District of the Painted Tree development, also includes amenities such as a resort-style pool, fitness center and dog parks.

The current situation: Pre-leasing for the community began in early 2024, with the first residents moving in later that year. The final construction work on the development was completed in 2025, with the leasing office opening in September, a representative of the development said. The community is 75% occupied, the release states.

McKinney National Airport to host Display Day in October

✈️ McKinney residents and visitors will have a chance to visit McKinney National Airport and view a variety of aircraft up close in October.

The gist: The airport is hosting a Display Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 25 at 1508 Industrial Blvd. Admission and parking for the event is free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, according to a city news release.

Attendants will be able to view a range of aircraft, including emergency medical services helicopters, drones, corporate jets, and Civil Air Patrol planes. In addition to the displays, local flight school officials will be present to provide information on aviation education opportunities.

If the event is rained out on Oct. 25, it will be rescheduled to Oct. 26.

Quote of note: “Many residents have not had a reason to visit McKinney National Airport yet,” McKinney National Airport Director Ken Carley said in a statement. “Display Day is a chance to see the aircraft based here and learn how the airport operates today."
