Cibolo City Council receives update from new recycling service provider

In the first several months of servicing the city of Cibolo, Waste Connections of Texas staff have collected 18,503 pounds of household hazardous waste.

The impact: The most common items being thrown away by residents are latex and oil-based paints, batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, computers, televisions and other electronics, according to a March 10 meeting presentation.

“We’ve had over or around 300 individual pickups, and the average pickup is 62 pounds,” said Zach Ryan, district manager for Waste Connections of Texas.

Of the 18,503 pounds collected, approximately 16,649 pounds have been recycled, which is a higher diversion rate than standard recycling, according to the meeting presentation.

Waste Connections also provides brush and bulk collection services to city residents. Ryan said they have been collecting an average of 100 tons of bulk and brush per month.

“This time of year we’ll see an uptick as people start cleaning out their homes and doing spring cleaning," Ryan said.

“It’s been a whole new chapter, and it was time for me to choose what that meant for me,” Swift said. She said this is the first time she has owned a business after leaving the corporate world.
