McKinney shifts trash collection schedule due to weather

The trash collection schedule in McKinney is being shifted this week due to road conditions, according to city officials.

What’s happening: Trash collection was postponed Jan. 26 and Jan. 27. City officials expect trash collection to resume Jan. 28 and all routes will be completed Wednesday through Saturday, Public Relations Manager Denise Lessard said in an email. Recycling will not be collected this week. Residents who experience excessive recycling accumulation may place those materials in bags along their recycling containers for collection next week, Lessard said. Commercial trash service is also expected to resume Jan. 28.

City officials began announcing modifications to city services and facilities last week ahead of an arctic cold front that reached North Texas over the weekend. Facility closures and service modifications can be tracked via McKinney’s inclement weather website.

The context: The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is under an Extreme Cold Warning until 9 a.m. Jan. 27. Temperature highs are estimated to remain in the 20s with lows in the teens and single digits through Tuesday morning.
