Schools in Argyle ISD and Lewisville ISD will be closed Monday because of inclement weather.

District officials in both AISD and LISD will continue monitoring conditions, but no decision has been made on closures for Tuesday.

Denton ISD will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, due to the winter weather.

What you need to know: DISD schools will be closed for instruction Jan. 26 and all before- and after-school activities are canceled, per the district's webpage.

As of Jan. 24, district officials have not made a decision on Tuesday, Jan. 27, but will communicate updates to the DISD community as they become available.

Ice expected to accumulate from freezing rain this weekend, winter storm warning in effect

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is under a winter storm warning from 6 p.m Friday until Sunday at noon. 

Major takeaways: An Arctic cold front moved into the region early Friday with cold rain expected to turn into a wintry mix in the evening. Freezing rain and sleet will spread southward overnight from Friday into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service's current forecasts. The precipitation is expected to transition into all sleet in North Texas Saturday afternoon with a mix of snow and sleet anticipated Sunday morning. 

Through Sunday evening, the DFW area could see anywhere from one-quarter inch to a half inch of ice accumulation. Residents can expect icy roads, trees and power lines, per the NWS.

Dallas-Fort Worth area school districts announce closures due to Winter Storm Fern

Several Dallas-Fort Worth school districts announced school closures Jan. 26 ahead of an arctic winter storm that will sweep the state this weekend.

What residents need to know: As of Jan. 24, the following school districts and colleges have announced that they will be closed Monday:

  • Allen ISD
  • Argyle ISD
  • Carroll ISD
  • Celina ISD
  • Collin College
  • Denton ISD

More than 1,300 flights in, out of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Love Field altered by winter weather

Dallas Love Field Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport have seen a large number of cancellations and delayed flights due to the expected impact of Winter Storm Fern.

Zooming in: More than 1,300 flights were cancelled or delayed between Jan. 23 and Jan. 24. According to Flightaware.com, 117 flights into DFW Airport and 30 into Dallas Love Field were cancelled Jan. 23, which accounted for 10% and 2%, respectively, of flights into the airports.

As of 5:30 p.m. Jan. 23, there were 103 delayed landings into DFW Airport and nine into Love Field. Travellers leaving both airports had fewer cancellations or delays.

Stay tuned: The largest number of cancellations for flights in and out of those airports is on Jan. 24, according to FlightAware.

Leaving DFW Airport, 635 flights have been cancelled, while 603 flights that were supposed to land at DFW Airport are now also cancelled. Love Field’s numbers include 90 flights out cancelled and 91 flights into Dallas cancelled as of 5:30 p.m. Jan. 23.
