Missouri City cancels construction contract for field operations center

The city of Missouri City has continued to see delays for its field operations center.

What happened: At a June 15 meeting, Missouri City City Council authorized the termination of a contract with E. Contractors USA LLC for the construction of the parks and facility maintenance building, which is also referred to as the field maintenance facility project.

The termination comes after the project has unresolved schedule delays, incomplete work, pending project issues and concerns about the contractor’s ability to complete the project in a timely and acceptable manner, according to agenda documents.

The background: The $6.3 million project was initially approved by City Council in August 2024, but a notice to proceed was not issued until December 2024 with an expected completion date of mid-December 2025, per agenda documents.

However, the project saw several change orders due to changes in scope, field conditions and schedule impacts during the process which brought brought the total project cost to nearly $7.81 million with an expected completion date of April 7, 2026.

St. Luke’s Health-Sugar Land Hospital expands virtual nursing program

St. Luke’s Health-Sugar Land Hospital, a member of CommonSpirit Health, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 22 for the expansion of its virtually integrated care program.

The virtually integrated care, or VIC, program first launched at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in November 2023 and later at St. Luke's Health-Sugar Land Hospital in October 2025, according to a June 22 news release.

The overview: The VIC model pairs experienced virtual registered nurses with bedside nurses and patient care assistants through online platforms to improve patient monitoring, streamline workflows and enhance family communication, Community Impact previously reported.

Virtual nurses do more hands-off care such as administrative tasks, while bedside nurses will deliver more hands-on care, said Laura Barker, who serves as CommonSpirit Health’s system director for virtually integrated care.

The program started on the fifth floor of the hospital with 32 medical-surgical unit patient rooms and has expanded to 64 rooms now also located on the fourth floor.
