Qwik Pack and Ship Hockley to open in the Cypress area

Qwik Pack and Ship Hockley officials said the Veteran owned business plans to open in July.

The details: Owned by Troy and Jeannine Stanglin, Qwik Pack and Ship Hockley plans tol offer shipping, printing and business essentials. Per the business Facebook, the shipping company will offer local and international shipping though FedEx, UPS, USPS and DHL. Qwik Pack and Ship Hockley also plans to offer mail box rentals and passport photo services.

Harris County commissioners appoint new flood control director

Harris County Commissioners unanimously approved appointing Marcus Stuckett, a former engineer with the Harris County Flood Control District, to the role of executive director for the agency.

The breakdown: In a June 25 business court meeting, Stuckett was nominated by Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey to fill the role following the resignation of Tina Petersen on June 11. Stuckett worked for the flood control district from 2015-2022, becoming a certified floodplain administrator and director of engineering for the district. Stuckett left the HCFCD to work as an associate vice president at Pape-Dawson Engineers.

Quote of note: “I am honored by the confidence placed in me by Commissioners Court and Administrator [Erica Lee] Carter," Stuckett said. "The Harris County Flood Control District has a long history of protecting residents from flooding through innovative engineering, strong partnerships, and responsible stewardship of public resources. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated employees, community partners and elected officials to continue delivering projects that reduce flood risk and improve quality of life for Harris County residents."

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announces new agriculture complex along Hwy. 288

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is planning an expansion along Hwy. 288, with a new agricultural and livestock complex expected to add more than 1 million square feet of event and programming space.

What we know: The organization announced June 24 that the project will be the largest single facilities investment in the rodeo’s more than 90-year history. Construction is expected to take several years, with the goal of opening the complex in time for the 2029 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The new facility is designed to support livestock shows, horse show competitions, junior and open breeding shows, archery competitions, agricultural mechanics, commercial auctions and educational contests, including 4-H and intercollegiate programming. Some livestock events will continue to be held at Reliant Center, according to the release.

Diving in deeper: Outside of the annual rodeo, the complex is expected to host year-round educational programming, committee meetings, fundraisers, auctions, galas and other agricultural, youth and Western heritage events.

New pre-security Starbucks opens at IAH Terminal E

A new pre-security Starbucks opened in mid-June at George Bush Intercontinental Airport's Terminal E, officials with the Houston Airport System announced in a June 19 news release. 

What to expect: Per the release, the coffee shop is located beneath the Oculus—the centerpiece of the Terminal E arrivals hall—and has nearby seating options with charging stations. 

Founded in Seattle in 1971, the international coffee chain offers a menu of brewed coffee, espresso drinks, blended frozen Frappuccinos, teas, pastries and more. 

Some context: The new Starbucks is just the latest in a slate of new dining options to open in Terminal E over the past year, as part of a $1.5 billion effort to expand terminal offerings.

What's next: Officials also noted a Chili's To-Go Bar is set to open near the Starbucks later this year.

Crispy Cones now open in Conroe

The ice cream parlor opened May 1 at 2200 N. Frazier St. in Conroe. First seen on Season 14 of "Shark Tank" in 2022, Crispy Cones whips up several variations of dessert cones for customers, including its featured waffle cone baked rotisserie-style and topped with gourmet soft serve ice cream.

Wise Street Eats now serving halal burgers, loaded fries in the Heights

Wise Street Eats opened on Heights Boulevard on June 14, offering both burger and sandwich combinations alongside popular menu items like its loaded fries, mac and cheese, sliders and fresh chicken tenders.
