PREVIEW: Katy ISD to hold Aug. 24 public hearing before adopting 2026-27 budget

Katy ISD residents will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on the fiscal year 2026-27 budget ahead of its Aug. 24 approval.

What you need to know: During an Aug. 17 work study meeting, Director of Budget and Treasury Esperanza Rios said the 2026-27 general fund’s revenues are budgeted at $1.14 billion and expenditures at $1.17 billion.

Most of the expenditure budget will fund districtwide salaries and staff benefits alongside separate 1% lump-sum payments to be given in August and December.

Also of note: The district’s proposed tax rate—$1.1171 per $100 valuation— is anticipated to stay the same as 2025-26, according to agenda documents.

What’s next: The public hearing on the budget and tax rate is scheduled for the board’s Aug. 24 meeting at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex beginning at 5 p.m., with the budget expected to be adopted afterwards.

Houston Airport System unveils renovated IAH Executive Club

The Executive Club at George Bush Intercontinental Airport has recently completed a full renovation, Houston Airport System officials announced in an Aug. 4 news release.

What's new? Operated by SSP America, the IAH Executive Club debuted a new modern look this summer featuring new furniture, fresh paint, updated decor and redesigned seating areas. Per the release, the lounge also features a central food and beverage area that includes buffet service and a dedicated bar.

Additional amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, a meeting room and televisions, snacks, beverages and reading material.

Who it's for: Located on Level 2 of Terminal D near Gate D12, IAH's Executive Club serves qualifying international passengers flying with British Airways, Emirates and EVA Airlines. Qualified passengers will note access to the IAH Executive Club on their boarding pass, per the release.

Q&A: Meet the candidates running to represent Texas in the US Senate

This November, Libertarian Ted Brown, Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico are running to be Texas' next U.S. senator.

The overview: Each state has two U.S. senators serving staggered terms, with Ted Cruz and John Cornyn currently representing Texas. Cornyn ran for reelection but lost his primary race, and the winner of the November election will replace him in January.

Paxton advanced to the general election after beating Cornyn in a primary runoff, while Talarico beat two other contenders in the Democratic primary, Community Impact reported. Brown was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

At the polls: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 for dozens of statewide and local races. Election Day is Nov. 3.
