The Rusty Buckle Craft BBQ and Texas Cuisine reopened in a new, larger space in New Caney on Sept. 25.

The backstory: The reopening follows a Thanksgiving Day fire in 2023 that destroyed most of the original restaurant's cooking areas. Owner Allen Rhoden kept the business running by serving customers from a food trailer and reopening on the other side of the building before constructing the new venue.

What to expect: Located behind the original site at 22664 Community Drive, the new space features:

• Indoor seating for up to 125 guests

• An outdoor patio

• A menu offering barbecue, burgers, country-fried steaks, fish tacos, nachos and steaks

Local artists and photographers have two upcoming opportunities to display their work in community venues owned by the East Montgomery County Improvement District.

The big picture: Photographers can submit black-and-white photos to be considered for display in EMCID’s Caney Pines Convention Center in New Caney. Submissions will be accepted through Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.

The framework: Through Oct. 31, artists can submit pieces for the 2027-28 Art in the Atrium exhibition season, according to an Oct. 1 social media post from EMCID. Art that is selected will be displayed for a year in The Atrium Center in New Caney.

American Express announced plans on Oct. 8 to expand and renovate its existing Centurion Lounge at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The details: The project will nearly triple the lounge's current space from 8,000 square feet to 23,000 square feet and is expected to be complete by 2028.

Upgrades at the Houston airport lounge will include:

• A new Blue Roast by American Express Coffee and Wellness Bar

• A specialty dining area with rotating plated dishes and a signature buffet

• A second full-service bar with craft cocktails and a curated wine selection

• Refreshed restrooms, premium shower suites and various seating areas

Some context: This expansion is part of a larger investment by American Express. The company also plans to expand and upgrade its lounge at Philadelphia International Airport, open a new lounge at Newark Liberty Airport and open a second lounge at London Heathrow Airport.
