Celina ISD students returned for the first day of school on Aug. 12.

What's new: Campuses across the district reopened their doors, and Willard Middle School, CISD’s newest campus, opened its doors for the first time.

In a nutshell: Willard Middle School is the district’s second middle school. It was built with funds from the district’s 2019 bond, according to the district’s website.

The context: Willard Middle School is part of a wave of new schools opening to accommodate CISD’s rapid growth.

City officials plan Celina-themed store for Downtown Center

City officials plan to open a “retail destination” in Celina’s future Downtown Center, said Anthony Satarino, executive director of the Celina Economic Development Corporation.

The store will serve as both a retail location for Celina-themed merchandise and a hub for information about downtown, he said.

Satarino presented information about the store at an Aug. 11 Celina City Council meeting.

The details: The store will occupy roughly 1,200 square feet within the Downtown Center, which is under construction as of mid-2026 with a public opening planned for Feb. 2027, according to Satarino’s presentation.

Goods sold at the store could include clothing, toys and home goods, per the presentation.

Officials plan to work with local vendors when determining the inventory of the store, Satarino said.

“We don’t want this to serve as competition,” he said. “We want this to complement downtown.”

Collin County calls $817.5M bond to address growth needs

Collin County residents will vote on a $817.5 million bond when they head to the ballots Nov. 3.

Collin County commissioners approved the placement of four bond propositions on the November ballot during an Aug. 10 meeting. The propositions look to improve the county’s jail and courthouse, roads, parks and construct a new elections facility to maintain needs of the county’s growing population.

Quote of note: “All of these are taxpayer approved, so we put them forward to the taxpayer and if they want to approve it, we’ll move forward. If they don’t, we won’t and I’m perfectly content with that,” County Judge Chris Hill said. “They’re going to have to pay the bill, so we want their voice on this decision.”

The details: The propositions include:
Proposition A: $296.5 million for court and detention facility projects
Proposition B: $475 million for road improvement projects
Proposition C: $6 million for parks and open space projects
Proposition D: $40 million for elections and records storage facility
