Katy City Council approves 4.8% fee increase for solid waste removal

Katy residents will see an increase to solid waste fees starting in September.

What you need to know: At an Aug. 10 meeting, Katy City Council approved a contract amendment with Texas Pride Disposal to raise solid waste collection and disposal rates by 4.8% to align with the national consumer price index. The consumer price index measures the average change in prices, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

By the numbers: The fee increase will raise solid waste and recycling services from $16.85 to $17.66 per month for residential units, according to agenda documents. Charges for small commercial unit services and additional garbage or recycle carts are staying the same.

Next steps: The fee increase goes into effect Sept. 1, per agenda documents.

Spectators Bar & Grill opens 4th location in Katy

Spectators Bar & Grill has opened its fourth location in Katy, officials announced in an Aug. 5 news release.

The eatery replaces the former Scholars and Scoundrels which closed its Katy location in December, Community Impact reported.

The details: Described as a “family-friendly neighborhood sports-bar experience,” the 6,500-square-foot location features an open layout with 45 televisions and a patio with a 19-seat bar, per the release.

Several private rooms are also available for birthday parties, team celebrations, family gatherings or other group events.

What’s on the menu: The menu features a wide variety of options with featured menu items including a prime beef cheeseburger, hot honey crispy chicken sandwich, wings and Philly cheesesteak-stuffed Texas twinkies, per the release release.

The restaurant also has a kids menu, weekend brunch options and over 60 cocktails including a spicy peach margarita and maple bacon old fashioned.

On-demand laundry pickup service now washing clothes in Greater Houston area

A new laundry pickup and delivery service is now serving customers across the Greater Houston area. LaundryGrab opened in early 2026 and is aimed at helping busy residents who would rather spend time with their families than do laundry.

How it works: The delivery-only service allows customers to place orders online or via the company's app. According to a July 27 emailed statement, workers then collect the laundry from the residents' doorstep, wash and fold or dry clean the items and then deliver them back within a 24- to 48- hour timeframe. Pickup and delivery are free. Services include:

Washing and folding
Dry cleaning
Cleaning household and event linens such as comforters, bedding, sheets, towels and tablecloths
Same-day service for urgent orders

Starting rates for a wash and fold service are set at approximately $3.95 per pound. Dry cleaning is priced per garment, starting at $2.95 per item.
