Bastrop County ESD 3 ahead of schedule for district-operated EMS

Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 3 is continuing its year-long transition away from using Acadian Ambulance as a vendor.

“We’re about halfway through that, and we’re well ahead of schedule,” said Allen Johnson, executive director of ESD 3. “In fact, we’ll start receiving delivery of our new ambulances in June.”

What we know: There are 15 ambulances on order, according to ESD 3 officials.

“It is our intent to have eight ambulances, 24 hours a day, with three additional peak trucks,” Johnson said during a March 24 Bastrop City Council meeting. “So we will have gone, over about a 16-month period, from four ambulances a day to a max of 11, with two supervisors.”
