Austin Community College could expand tuition benefits to Pflugerville ISD residents

The Austin Community College District board of trustees announced June 15 that it unanimously accepted a petition seeking to place an ACC annexation item on the ballot this November. If approved, the ballot measure would annex Pflugerville ISD's territory into the ACC taxing district, allowing students living within PfISD's boundaries to access ACC's in-district tuition rates and more.

How we got here: Residents within the PfISD enrollment boundaries were required to collect signatures from at least 5% of registered voters living within the proposed annexed territory in order to bring the petition before the board, per the Texas Education Code. The petition garnered 5,483 signatures, surpassing the required 3,988 signature threshold.

What you need to know: Residents would immediately qualify for ACC's in-district tuition and fee rate of $85 per credit hour if annexation is approved.

Looking ahead: A public hearing is scheduled to take place July 16 at 5 p.m. at PfISD's Learning and Technology Center. The hearing will be livestreamed on the ACC website and rebroadcast on ACCTV.

Travis County violence intervention pilot faces funding gap as contract nears end

A Travis County-funded pilot program connecting violence victims and their families to social services at Austin's two Level 1 trauma centers is expiring this year with no confirmed funding source to continue it, according to a presentation by Ascension Seton staff to Travis County Commissioners on June 9.

What you need to know: The $500,000 contract with Ascension Seton for the Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program, or HVIP, will be fully expended by Aug. 31 with no other funding sources identified, according to county documents. Travis County Health and Human Services submitted a budget request for $250,000 annually in fiscal year 2026-27 to continue the program, a Travis County spokesperson confirmed.

The HVIP launched in October 2024 at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin—the only Level 1 adult trauma center in Central Texas—and Dell Children's Medical Center, according to county documents.
