Southlake City Council roundup: updates on plan for Old Dragon Stadium, economic agreement, recycling

The city of Southlake plans to develop a city park at the site of Old Dragon Stadium, the original football stadium for Carroll High School.

Carroll ISD announced the sale of the stadium and nearby fields for $8.75 million during its meeting Nov. 3, according to previous reporting. The next day, the Southlake City Council met and the purchase of the stadium at 2563 N. Carroll Ave. was discussed.

What’s next: The project envisions new amenities and open spaces that meet community needs, which could include flexible practice fields, a playground and a walking trail celebrating Carroll Dragons football—its teams, coaches, players, and state championships, according to the city website.

Truva Mediterranean Bar and Grill serves gyro bowls, seafood in Colleyville

Truva Mediterranean Bar and Grill is now open in Colleyville, Owner Can Karatas said. 

The details: The restaurant serves gyro plates, salmon, Turkish lasagna, lamb chops, handmade fresh bread and seafood, Karatas said. 

The space seats 115 people and has two private rooms and a patio, Karatas said.
 
This is Karatas’ fourth restaurant in Texas and the largest Turkish Mediterranean restaurant in Texas, he said.

Southlake Town Square hosted the Home for the Holidays: Christmastime in Southlake event Nov. 22. The annual event is held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year, according to the city website.

What happened: Streets throughout the shopping center were closed for food vendors, games for children, merchant vendors and activities.

Free Santa photos were available at Santa Village, and choirs from local elementary schools performed outside of Southlake Town Hall. Ensembles from School of Rock, North Texas Performing Arts, the Uplift Dance Project, the Cantare Performance Choir, Colleyville Covenant Christian Academy and White’s Chapel performed at Frank Edgar Cornish IV Park.

This was the 26th year of the event.

What else? The Holiday of Lights is being held at McPherson Park. The new activity opened during this event and will run through Jan. 4, 2026, according to previous reporting.

Cook Children’s officials recommend immunizations as respiratory virus rates increase

Cases for two flu variations and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, have more than doubled since the end of October, according to data from Cook Children's Health Care in Fort Worth.

In a nutshell: More than 11% of all patients tested at Cook Children’s Medical Center-Fort Worth for respiratory viruses on the week of Nov. 9 were positive for Flu A, Flu B or RSV. The hospital tested a total of 757 patients during that week.

By comparison, the hospital tested 633 patients on the week of Oct. 26 and saw 5.53% of those patients tested positive for one of the three respiratory viruses.
