Guadalupe County sees 15.76% population increase from 2020-2025

Between 2020 and 2025, Guadalupe County saw a 15.76% population increase, according to county-level data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in March.

In 2020, Guadalupe County had an estimated population of 173,722, which increased to an estimated population of 201,111 in 2025, data shows.

The overview: The largest contributor to population growth in Guadalupe County is domestic migration, according to data from the bureau. Domestic migration refers to individuals moving across county or state lines. International migration refers to individuals who cross a national border between two countries, according to the bureau.

In both annual and cumulative measurements, the natural population growth in the county increased, meaning more county residents were born than died. Between 2024 and 2025, the census data found that there were 2,058 births and 1,433 deaths in the county.

Hays County considers potential review division for high-intensity developments

Discussions surrounding water conservation, availability and use by developments continue in Hays County as the Commissioners Court discussed the proposed creation of a division within the Development Services Department to review projects that require significant resources.

What happened: Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra placed an item on the court’s April 14 agenda to consider the creation of a High Intensity Development Review Division.

If approved, the item would have increased the responsibility of a current position within the Development Services Department to include evaluating developments that demand significant water, power, land or infrastructure systems, according to Becerra.

Another viewpoint: Precinct 4 Commissioner Walt Smith raised concerns about the county’s authority to review proposed high-usage developments differently from other projects. A similar concern was raised at a Feb. 24 meeting regarding a proposed moratorium on developments requiring large amounts of water.

Going forward: Following court discussion, the commissioners directed staff to work with the Development Services Department to make recommendations for how best to move the proposed review division forward.

Texans have until April 27 to register to vote in May runoff elections

Texans interested in casting a ballot in next month’s primary runoff election have until April 27 to register to vote or update their registration, if applicable.

The background: Texas’ primary runoff election will be held May 26. A runoff is held when no candidate secures over half of the vote in a partisan primary race.

Registering to vote: Prospective voters must submit a paper application, which is available online. Applications must be printed, signed and mailed to the voter registration office in a voter’s county of residence.

On the ballot: Various federal, state and local races will appear on the May 26 runoff ballot.

At the top of the ticket, Republican voters will pick between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton to determine the party’s nominee for U.S. Senate. The winner of that race will face state Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, in November.

Something to note: The runoff election is separate from upcoming local elections, which take place May 2. Visit www.communityimpact.com/voter-guide for more information about those elections.
