Frisco officials prioritize flagship events, infrastructure projects in 2026

As Frisco officials plan for the year ahead, they’re making a list of goals to help guide their efforts.

The list includes items that refer to specific projects or events as well as general areas the city would like to improve on, like community engagement or business engagement and talent connectivity.

Looking ahead: Universal Kids Resort is set to open this summer, and Frisco will host a team for the FIFA World Cup 2026 this June and July before turning its attention to the PGA Championship, which will be held in Frisco in May 2027.

What else: Construction crews are set to break ground on Grand Park in April after nearly 20 years of planning, according to previous reporting, and the newly redeveloped Rail District is set to reopen this summer after two years of construction, according to the project’s website.

Firefly Park announces Tyler's as its first retail tenant

Firefly Park officials announced the first retailer for the multibillion-dollar development in Frisco. 

What you need to know: Tyler’s, a sportswear retailer, signed a lease for a 16,653 square feet space at Aurora, the 18-story residential tower within the 217-acre mixed-use development, according to a Feb. 12 news Wilks Development news release. Wilks is the developer behind Firefly Park. 

Tyler’s will occupy about 13% of the project’s first phase retail space, according to the release. This will be the retailer's ninth Texas location and is expected to open in fall 2027 alongside the opening of phase one of Firefly Park.

Zooming out: Firefly Park construction began in 2024 and the first phase is set to be delivered in 2027 with additional phases to follow.

The development, when completed, will feature 4 million square feet of Class A office space, 400,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment, 1,200 hotel rooms, 230 townhomes and 1,970 residential units.

JetBlue Airways to add year-round flights from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Florida

JetBlue Airways will launch year-round flights from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The gist: According to a news release, the largest carrier at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will launch daily, year-round flights to DFW Airport starting March 12, following its initial announcement as a spring break-only service.

Additional daily frequency flights have been added from DFW Airport, running from March 12-23.

What they're saying: “These additions reflect the momentum we’ve built in Florida and our continued investment in Fort Lauderdale as a key gateway in our network,”
said Dave Jehn, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning and airline partnerships.

More details: The year-round flights from Florida to Texas will depart at 8:35 p.m. and arrive at 10:53 p.m, while departures from DFW Airport will leave at 6:15 a.m. and land in Florida at 9:55 a.m.

Afternoon departures will be available during the March 12-23 period, according to the website.

Ichika sets opening date to offer Japanese cuisine, interactive dining experience in Plano

Ichika will be open to the public for reservations starting March 1 in Plano.

The restaurant will be Texas’ first kaiseki-dedicated restaurant and one of the few kappo-style dining experiences in the country, owner Leo Kekoa said.

Kekoa said kappo-style kaiseki is traditionally served in formal dining rooms but that will not be the case at Ichika.

Three Wide Brewing Co. serves hand-crafted beer, food in Fort Worth

Three Wide Brewing Co. brings more than 30 taps of beer that is brewed in-house to Fort Worth and aims to bring guests a unique experience.

Co-owners Anderson and Matt Morris started brewing beers at home before deciding to monetize their hobby. Popular items include the hot soppressata and honey pizza, which has whipped ricotta, mozzarella cheese, spicy soppressata and hot honey, and the bratwurst, which Chef Roger Evaristo makes in house, Anderson said.
