Richardson City Council member Dan Barrios announces resignation for Congress bid

Richardson City Council member Dan Barrios announced his resignation from council on July 13 in order to devote his time to his campaign for U.S. Congress. Barrios said his resignation will become effective upon the appointment of his successor by council.

The overview: Barrios announced his candidacy in December for District 32 of the U.S. House, which includes Richardson and Plano. Barrios won the Democratic primary in March and will face Republican Jace Yarbrough in the November general election.

Barrios said he structured his resignation to ensure continuity during the upcoming budget approval process and to provide sufficient time for a “thoughtful appointment process that allows for public input.”

Quote of note: “Serving the people of Richardson as a member of the Richardson City Council has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Barrios said at the council meeting. “After thoughtful consideration, I have decided to resign from the Richardson City Council so that I may devote my full time and attention to my campaign to the United States Congress.”

Soul food restaurant Trucker’s Cafe to reopen Richardson location

Trucker’s Cafe is set to reopen its Richardson location on Aug. 1, owner Paulette Johnson said.

The details: Trucker’s Cafe is a soul food restaurant serving salads, burgers, fish, chicken, meatloaf and more. The restaurant, which first opened in Richardson in 2020, has been closed for a year due to a fire, Johnson said. Johnson said the grand opening will offer a $6.99 special with meat and sides.

A new bakery and kitchen, Maman, will be opening its third location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Plano.

The company offers donuts, coffee and breakfast food like bagels and egg sandwiches, according to the company's menu.
