Frisco is renewing a one-year contract with the Collin County animal shelter as city officials continue considering plans for a city-owned facility.

What we know: The renewed contract with the county shelter for FY27 will begin Oct. 1 and run through Sept. 30, 2027, costing $524,065. Funding for the one-year contract is available through the FY27 police department animal services division operating budget.

The one-year contract renewal comes just weeks after the Frisco City Council met to update plans for a proposed city animal shelter.

A second Kwality Ice Cream & Bakers location could be coming to Frisco next year.

The details: According to state filings, a 2,764 square-foot space at 2275 University Drive will undergo a roughly $90,000 renovation and interior finish out. Construction to convert the space is expected to begin Nov. 16 and finish by Jan. 11, 2027,

Kwality Ice Cream & Bakers currently operates three locations in Frisco, Euless and Irving.

Puja’s Trendz will open an Indian boutique store in Frisco Sept. 20.

The details: Puja’s Trendz is a boutique that sells traditional Indian clothing, fusion fashion and jewelry. Following the Euless location’s permanent closure, Frisco will serve as Puja’s Trendz’ flagship location.

The boutique contains a range of fabrics for festivals, weddings and home comfort.

Two candidates are running for Place 2 on the Collin Central Appraisal District Board of Directors in the Nov. 3 election.
The gist: Andrew Cook will compete against Michael G. Smith for the seat.
The background: Cook currently serves in Place 3 on the Board of Directors but chose to run for Place 2 in the upcoming election, he said.
