McKinney ISD officials announce repurposing plan for 3 closed elementary campuses

Following the closure of three elementary school campuses in McKinney ISD at the end of the 2025-26 school year, officials have announced plans to repurpose the facilities for other district uses.

McKinney ISD Chief Operations Officer Greg Suttle presented the plan to the district’s board of trustees at a June 29 meeting.

The context: The board of trustees voted unanimously at a Nov. 5 special meeting to approve the closure of three schools with the plan to repurpose the facilities for alternative district uses. The three campuses, which closed at the end of the 2025-26 school year, include:

  • C. T. Eddins Elementary
  • Arthur H. McNeil Elementary
  • Earl and Lottie Wolford Elementary

The specifics: The affected facilities are expected to be renamed, according to Suttle’s presentation. The new names reflect the school’s namesake but include updated facility usage information. The facilities will see district offices and programs relocate, and offer professional development space.

Food hall concept Wonder to offer cuisine from more than 20 restaurants in McKinney

As part of a larger expansion to Texas, Wonder is slated to develop a location in McKinney.

Wha you need to know: The company is app-based and allows diners to mix and match dishes from more than 20 restaurants in a single order. Menu items are made-to-order and include a range of cuisines. The kitchen also offers menu items in collaboration with chefs such as Bobby Flay and restaurants such as Tejas Barbecue, alongside Wonder concepts such as Pop Salad.
Wonder’s physical locations offer dine-in and pickup, as well as free delivery services, according to its website.

LookinThe company, which has more than 100 locations in 10 states along the East Coast, is planning to bring more than 100 new locations to Texas beginning in early 2027, a representative of the company confirmed.

Six Flags Over Texas “Tormenta Rampaging Run” to now open July 9

Six Flags Over Texas has announced the new opening date for its first “giga dive coaster as July 9.

The new coaster was originally scheduled to open June 26, but was postponed because commissioning and test taking took longer than expected, per previous reporting.

The details: The Tormenta Rampaging Run reaches 309 feet above ground and has a 285-foot drop, according to the Six Flags website. Riders will be going at 87 miles-per-hour on a ride spanning more than four thousand feet.

Upcoming projects

1. Frisco Street roundabout additions

Project: Four roundabouts will be added along Frisco Street at Technology Drive, Sports Village Road, All Stars Avenue and Research Road. The intersections will be converted from intersections to multilane roundabouts.

Update: The project is in the design phase with bidding for construction expected early next year.

  • Timeline: early 2027-2028
  • Cost: $12 million
  • Funding source: city of Frisco

2. Spring Creek Corridor Intersection Improvements

Project: New turning lanes, concrete pavement, barrier free ramp reconstruction, sidewalk replacement and signal modifications will be added along Spring Creek Parkway at Jupiter Road, Chase Oaks Drive, Ohio Drive, Preston Meadow Road and Parkwood Boulevard.

Update: The design phase is complete, said Clay Lipscomb, Plano community investment project engineering manager. Construction is estimated to start in 2027.
