Seniors in Montgomery County will soon have a new, dedicated facility for activities and communal dining at a location off Pruitt Road near I-45, Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler announced July 23.

What to expect: The center will provide room for senior activities and dining, which is currently held at the Kevin Brady Community Center and Library that opened last September. 

Since many events, such as voting in local elections, are held at the Kevin Brady Community Center, there are sometimes scheduling conflicts and challenges at the current center, Wheeler said.

What to expect: The estimated cost to build the facility is $420,000 from the ground up, with a tentative completion date in spring 2027. Wheeler told Community Impact the building will be funded from the Precinct 3 budget.

Paying tribute to Hollywood legend Audrey Hepburn, Omar and Denise Khan opened The Audrey Restaurant and Bar in 2023 as a unique concept that fuses classic American dishes, European-inspired refinement, and a love of cinema under one roof. Three years later, Omar Khan said the two plan to expand with a new location in Post Oak this summer.

Quote of note: “Design choices were curated with the mindset of encouraging connection, celebrations and being female-centric,” Omar Khan said. “We really want people to think of it as a gathering place for the neighborhood where they can come and enjoy friends and family time together.”

On the menu: The Audrey Restaurant and Bar’s culinary team curates a menu consisting of upscale meats, seafood and pastas paired with a selection of craft cocktails.
With a focus on American classic dishes, Omar Khan said some of his personal favorites on the menu include:

• The spaghetti pomodoro made with fresh basil, roasted tomato and parmesan
• Truffle ribeye made with truffle butter, Boursin mashed potatoes and broccolini

As more data centers are being built in Texas, the state’s water planning agency warns that limited information is available about the booming industry and its impact on water supplies.

The overview: The Texas Water Development Board adopted its initial 2027 State Water Plan on July 23, with a “more robust” version of the plan expected later this year. The plan consists of 3,000 water management projects and 6,700 strategies that experts say are needed to prepare for future severe droughts.

It will cost about $174 billion to complete the projects, according to the TWDB. However, if they are not implemented, a severe drought could cost the state $91 billion in economic damages as soon as 2030 and lead to $177 billion in annual losses by 2080.

The context: These projections do not account for the amount of water that data centers—which largely purchase their water from public systems—may use or how the large facilities could contribute to overall water availability. Right now, the board said it did not have enough information to do so.
