Cy-Fair ISD will not pursue a bond election in May after Harris County officials said they could not support the district with election equipment, Superintendent Doug Killian said Feb. 5.

What's happening: CFISD’s Long Range Planning Committee recommended the district send a $1.64 billion bond before voters this year. The committee intended to let the board choose between a May 2 or Nov. 3 election, the two uniform bond election dates in Texas. 

However, Killian said county officials notified CFISD two weeks ago that they could not administer the district’s election in May, meaning CFISD will have to table the proposal until early fall. 

The cause: Harris County is administering Democratic and Republican primary elections March 3 with an array of races. Several statewide races with a large number of candidates have a “high likelihood” of resulting in a May 26 runoff, Killian said, and the county may not have the resources to oversee a May 2 election. 

Looking forward: The deadline for the board to call a November bond election is Aug. 17. 

Houston-area creperie and café Coco Crepes & Coffee is opening a new Cypress location west of the Grand Parkway, per the business' website.

Learn more: Tenant build-out of the new location along Elyson Exchange Way is set to begin in late April, according to a Jan. 31 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The construction is expected to wrap up by the end of July, the TDLR filing shows, but the exact opening date of the new café is unknown as of press time. Details submitted to TDLR are subject to change. 

Zooming out: Coco Crepes & Coffee has 10 franchise locations across the Greater Houston area, including a café in the Boardwalk at Towne Lake.

On the menu: Coco Crepes & Coffee serves a variety of sweet and savory and waffles, as well as paninis, soups and salads, according to its website. The café also offers a range of espresso drinks and gelato.

Major lane closures will remain in place on I-10 East near Normandy Road as repairs continue, according to a Feb. 5 news release from the Texas Department of Transportation.

What you need to know: TxDOT said crews have worked overnight after a utility waterline rupture late Feb. 5 triggered a pavement failure near Normandy Road, forcing TxDOT to shut down all eastbound lanes and close the inside lane and shoulder westbound.

Motorists should expect delays and are strongly encouraged to take alternate routes, per the release, including:

• US 90A/BU 90 (McCarty Road)
• Hwy. 225

In case you missed it: Main Street Market held its last market in downtown Conroe Feb. 7 after nearly five years. The organizers announced the closure via Facebook on Jan. 29.

"This has always been more than a market," market developer Farralyn Withrow said in the social media post. "It’s been a tight-knit community and the starting place for 100+ new businesses. It’s been a major part of the ecosystem that is downtown Conroe." 

Also of note: Magnolia City Council moved Jan. 28 to terminate City Administrator Chris Whittaker, approving a resolution declaring a “lack of confidence” and removing him from office effective immediately.

The motion to terminate Whittaker's employment passed 4-0, with council member Geoff Beyers absent.

One more thing: Statewide enrollment for a new Katy ISD online program called Legacy Virtual High School opened Feb. 2, according to a Jan. 30 news conference from district officials.
