With six golf courses within city limits, and more accessible nearby, Georgetown is a popular golf destination, said Luke Zeske, first assistant golf professional at Georgetown Country Club.
Diving in deeper: Three of Georgetown’s golf courses are located in the Sun City Texas neighborhood. Sun City golfers play about 155,000 rounds a year, or an average of 425 rounds a day, according to data provided by the Sun City Texas Community Association.
Additionally, Berry Creek Country Club, Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club, and Georgetown Country Club provide other options to golfers in the city.
The impact: Kristen Hullum, a registered nurse and the trauma injury prevention coordinator at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, said golf provides both physical activity and social interaction, which many people, especially older adults, have to explicitly seek out.
Quote of note: “[Golf] is one of those ways where you can get both your physical activity and your mental well-being queued up in the same session,” said Dr. Jordan Handcox, with Baylor Scott & White Health orthopedic surgery. Looking ahead: Sun City residents will have another golf course to choose from with construction on a shorter nine-hole course beginning soon. Expected to open in late 2026, the par-3 course will be funded by developer Pulte Homes and managed by the Sun City Texas Community Association.
