Richardson ISD students improve academic progress test scores at all grade levels

Richardson ISD students showed yearlong growth on their end-of-year Measure of Academic Progress, or MAP, exams and exceeded national norms. Gina Ortiz, senior executive director of accountability and continuous improvement, presented the results at the June 4 board of trustees meeting.

Breaking it down: MAP exams are administered three times a year to students in kindergarten to eighth grade. The exams are one of the core metrics that the district uses to gauge how students are progressing, Ortiz said.

All grade levels from kindergarten to eighth grade showed growth from the fall assessments to the end-of-year assessments on the English reading, Spanish reading and math exams.

Quote of note: “From day one to the last day of school, we have been intensely focused on making sure that every day counts for our kids,” Superintendent Tabitha Branum said. “We have implemented new systems, we have made sure that we are monitoring quality instruction every day. We have experienced a tremendous amount of growth.”
