Selection of bond project contractors upcoming; Round Rock ISD launches 2024 bond tracker
Round Rock ISD is making headway on several 2024 bond projects, with several entering stages of procurement and design, per a recent district report.
Current situation: Major and minor construction projects, turf field replacements, track resurfacing and technology replacements are underway in RRISD, as the district gets moving on bond projects funded through three 2024 ballot initiatives. Administrators provided an update on these projects in an Aug. 21 board meeting.
St. David’s Women’s Center celebrates over 1,000 deliveries in July
St. David’s North Austin Medical Center announced its milestone of delivering more than 1,000 babies in July at its St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas.
Read all about it: In an email to Community Impact, St. David’s HealthCare said the system delivers more babies than any other hospital system in Central Texas.
Additionally, six out of 10 babies in Central Texas are born at a St. David’s HealthCare facility with a majority being delivered at St. David’s Women’s Center.
According to the system, the center delivered more than 10,000 babies in 2024 and is expected to exceed that number in 2025.
Permit shows Micro Center could bring tech products to North Austin
Micro Center is slated to open its first Austin-area location, per a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.
The details: The retailer sells a variety of tech products including desktop and gaming computers, Apple products, 3D printers, home automation devices, PC parts such as motherboards and graphics cards, and other tech accessories.
The business also provides services for laptop screen and battery replacements, virus removals and more.
A representative for the business did not confirm an expected open date or any other information as of press time.
Did you know?: The building was the former location of Fry's Electronics, which closed in 2021. Micro Center has two other locations in Dallas and Houston.
Inaugural State of Healthcare Workforce Forum highlights local concerns around shortage, talent pools
Higher education costs, a booming population and aging workforce are all challenges identified by health care executives at the state and local level in a first-time health care forum held at Austin PBS in August.
The setup: Hosted by Workforce Solutions Capital Area, Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area and the Central Texas Healthcare Partnership, with support from the St. David's Foundation, the State of Healthcare Workforce Forum brought experts from the state and regional level to discuss challenges impacting the health care industry and its workforce Aug. 26.
