Charm Taphouse & BBQ blends traditional Thai cuisine and barbecue

Bringing together the fiery spices of authentic Thai food and the tradition of Texas barbecue, husband-and-wife duo Wanalee and Adam Gorelick launched their seventh restaurant Charm Taphouse & BBQ in June. Operated alongside manager Rich Foreman, the eatery is designed for barbecue and Thai food fanatics and offers house-smoked meats slowly cooked in a fire pit, fused with authentic Thai recipes.

Craving something different: Merging two cuisines that are worlds apart, Adam Gorelick said it took months to develop the balance of Thai cuisine made with Texas' smoked meats. From Thailand herself, Wanalee Gorelick said while Thai food can be quickly prepared, barbecue meats take hours to cook to perfection.

Must-try menu items: The menu offers an extensive selection of staple Thai dishes made with smoked meats. The Gorelicks said some must-try items include:

  • Charm special red curry, which is made with sliced brisket placed on top of aromatic Jasmine rice in coconut red curry, simmered with bamboo, bell peppers and basil.
  • A sausage sampler in which customers can choose three housemade sausages.

Houston single-family rents dip to 2-year low as listings jump, renters get a rare window

Houston-area renters opened 2026 with more choices and slightly lower prices, according to the Houston Association of Realtors’ January Rental Market Update released Feb. 18.

A closer look: The average lease price for a single-family rental fell 3.3% from a year earlier to $2,214, which HAR officials said is the lowest level since December 2023.

Even with prices easing, demand didn’t disappear. Leased listings rose 11% year over year to 3,447 homes, while new listings climbed 16.4% to 6,499 properties, giving renters more inventory to work with, according to the report.

One reason renters may feel more leverage right now is that homes are sitting longer. Days on market rose to 50 days, HAR’s report said, its highest January level since 2019.

HAR leaders framed the shift as a chance for renters to shop more strategically instead of rushing.

Also of note: Townhomes and condos also loosened up, according to the report.

HAR reported 504 townhome/condo units leased, up 6.3%, and 1,145 new listings, up 23.4%.
