Multiple lanes along Texas Avenue will be closed soon for continued construction of the Brazos County Administration Building in Bryan.

At a glance: As previously reported by Community Impact, the $18.5 million remodel project is slated to be completed spring 2027.

Brazos County reported construction for the remodel will require the outside southbound lane of Texas Avenue between 27th and 28th streets to be closed. Also affecting traffic flow is the closure of 26th and 27th streets with a barricaded merge lane, which will impact the Brazos Transit bus stop.

What’s next: The closures of 27th and 28th streets are expected to begin Sept. 7 and last until the end of the year. Brazos County said it's predicting more traffic congestion in the area at peak times.

Bryan-College Station will have a short stint of closures on ‘Big 6’ to begin the week.

'Big 6' is a long-term TxDOT project along Hwy. 6 through Bryan and College Station, aimed at helping the cities deal with growing traffic.

What you need to know:

• Aug. 24: Full closure of the southbound mainlanes from Briarcrest Drive to Southwest Parkway, 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

• Aug. 25: Full closure of the northbound and southbound mainlanes from Southwest Parkway to Briarcrest Drive, 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

What’s next: TxDOT will be maintaining two open main lanes in each direction during construction, with most work done on the mainlanes.

Texas’ audit of hundreds of proposed data centers will likely wrap up by the end of the year, grid officials said Aug. 20.

The overview: Up to 300 proposals will be audited to ensure they meet certain criteria before the data centers can begin connecting to the state electric grid. If all the plans are approved, these facilities alone could use about 200 gigawatts of electricity—more than twice Texas’ 91-gigawatt peak demand record, which was set on July 22.

How we got here: On Aug. 3, Gov. Greg Abbott directed ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission of Texas to audit proposed data centers regarding their water and electricity use; tax exemptions; impacts on residents; and facility ownership.

More details: Only large loads, or facilities that are expected to use at least 75 megawatts of electricity, will be fully audited. However, ERCOT will also survey proposed data centers that would use 25 megawatts of electricity or more.

ERCOT plans to release reports detailing the results of the audit and surveys on Dec. 10, officials said.
