Austin Energy releases 10-year, $735M plan to reduce power outages and improve grid resiliency

Austin Energy has finalized a 10-year, $735 million plan to improve system reliability and limit power outages in the face of mounting disruptions from aging infrastructure and severe weather.

The details: The release of AE's Electric System Resiliency Plan, or ESRP, comes after the three most impactful extreme weather events in utility history including winter storms Uri and Mara, and this May's microburst storm. The new plan also builds on recent consultant studies into both hardening AE's thousands of miles of overhead power lines, and burying some lines underground.

What residents should know: A variety of upgrades called for in the ESRP will take place wherever they make the biggest difference for the most amount of utility customers, and work will be scaled around the Austin area over the coming decade. Some customers may see limited service impacts as projects take place, accompanied with resident notifications.

In the next year, AE will also launch a public dashboard to report project updates and overall progress toward ESRP goals.

New EliteGate Wealth management company now serving Austin-area

A new financial services company, EliteGate Wealth, LLC, is now serving clients in the Austin-area and across the state. Services include financial planning, comprehensive wealth management and investment-aligned insurance solutions for life, annuity or long-term care.

A closer look: Founder and CEO Chris Miller announced the company late last year after a 25-year career in Fortune 500 financial services leadership, Miller said in a statement.

“I launched the firm to bring clients the sophistication and expertise of large institutions, while delivering the personal attention, transparency and long-term, relationship focus of a boutique family office,” Miller said.

Miller explained that he aims to improve what many large advisory firms often do, which operate with advisors working high case loads while providing limited client interaction. EliteGate prioritizes proactive communication, thoughtful planning and a supportive advisor culture, he said.
