San Jacinto College launches safety app

San Jacinto College launched SJC AlertMe, a free, mobile safety application for students, employees and surrounding community members to stay informed and prepared for emergencies, according to a Jan. 21 news release from the college.

What you need to know: The app, which is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, delivers real-time notifications about weather closures, critical campus updates and urgent safety alerts.

The details: App features include:

  • Instant emergency alerts for severe weather, closures and safety concerns
  • Incident reporting with the option to include photos or remain anonymous
  • Campus maps, emergency procedures and key contacts
  • Optional location sharing and "Friend Walk" features

Team Logic IT opens new location, serving Pearland, Friendswood, Clear Lake

The national franchise employs more than 1,700 engineers and technicians across 300 locations. 

The gist: Team Logic IT offers a variety of technology services, including cloud services, cybersecurity, data recovery, business application services and risk assessments. 

More details: Owned by Carl and Johnette Cadis, the business serves Pearland, Friendswood and Clear Lake, as well as the Galveston area, Carl Cadis said.

Q&A: Meet the Republican primary candidates for Harris County Precinct 2 commissioner

Republican candidates Raquel Hernandez Boujourne and Richard Vega are vying for the position of Harris County commissioner, Precinct 2, in the primary election.

The setup: Incumbent Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. Garcia first assumed office after being elected in 2018, with his current term ending Dec. 31, 2026

What residents should know: Harris County residents in Precinct 2 can start casting ballots for early voting from Feb. 17-Feb. 27. Election day is March 3.

Community Impact's goal with election Q&As is to provide a side-by-side, equitable resource for Texas voters to review candidates' perspectives as they prepare to head to the polls.
