Run Thru the Woods, live music: 5 things to do in The Woodlands area Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 27-30

Thanksgiving weekend events in The Woodlands area Nov. 27-30 include an annual YMCA run and live music at several locations. Seasonal activities such as ice skating are also available in the area.

YMCA Run Thru the Woods: The annual Thanksgiving run supports local nonprofits to strengthen The Woodlands, Spring and Oak Ridge North communities. The event includes a 3-mile run, 5-mile run, 3-mile walk and 1-mile kids' race at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

Music at Market Street: Live music and dance entertainment from local school and community performance groups will be presented through the holiday season at Market Street. Pink Chicken now open in The Woodlands 

According to a Pink Chicken news release, the female-founded company announced the opening of its first Texas storefront in The Woodlands on Nov. 22.

The details: Per the release, the new location at Market Street will be Pink Chicken’s 11th location nationally, and it was chosen for its alignment with existing retailers and its complementary target demographic.

What they offer: The new storefront is designed to reflect the brand's signature colorful flair and family-friendly atmosphere for mothers and children. The store will showcase popular Mommy-and-Me Styling looks, favorite holiday dressing and pieces from Coop Kids.

What to know about the 76th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade

The 76th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade will be celebrated Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. in Downtown Houston this year. Hundreds of thousands of patrons are expected to gather for the event, officials said.

The celebration: Here is what visitors need to know before heading to Houston.

  • Date and time: Nov. 27, 9 a.m.
  • Starting location: the corner of Lamar and Smith Street
  • Cost: free to the public, or $33 per ticket for reserved seating

The parade route will traverse over 20 blocks along Smith, Walker, Milam and Louisiana streets.

Fun for the family: This year's parade will be led by Houston's sports mascots such as Clutch, Diesel, Orbit and Toro. According to an Oct. 27 news release, the event will also feature a lineup of new floats, balloons, live performances and holiday characters.

Entertainers this year include Christina Wells, a semifinalist from America's Got Talent; Danny Gokey; Payton Howie; Gloria Prince; and Bridgjette Jackson.

Despite the heat and humidity in Texas, Houstonians can go ice skating in the Greater Houston area this holiday season. This is not a comprehensive list.

Ice at Discovery Green
Green Mountain Energy presents Ice at Discovery Green, where park-goers can enjoy skating in the heart of Houston. There will be multiple theme nights, such as DJ Skate Night Saturdays, Skating with Santa and Inclusive Skaters Night.

The Ice Rink at The Woodlands Town Center
The 21,000-square-foot multipurpose facility features ice skating and concessions. There are also special events such as Cookies & Cocoa with Santa and Friends. Admission includes two hours of skate time, and attendees can rent a helmet and walkers at an additional cost.
