Plano crews finish asphalt overlay projects on Parker Road, Alma Drive, other roadways

Plano residents can expect to see some construction relief as 2025 projects wrap up and new overlays begin next year.

What happened: Summer construction work added 47 miles of overlays in Plano, accounting for about a third of the city’s planned overlay projects, according to a news release from the city.

Zooming in: Plano has been working to improve the lifespan of city roads by adding new layers over repaired concrete through arterial overlay projects. The program first began in 2017 as a test with Independence Parkway, according to the release.

California Pizza Kitchen closes Willow Bend location

California Pizza Kitchen at The Shops at Willow Bend is now closed.

The details: The California-based chain served handcrafted pizzas, pasta and salad. The Plano closure marks California Pizza Kitchen’s second North Texas closure in recent years, following the closure of its Frisco location at Stonebriar Center in 2020. With the Plano location closed, the chain’s only Texas location is located in Houston.

Allen Premium Outlets marks 25 years with celebration, monthlong promotions

Representatives of Allen Premium Outlets held a celebration Oct. 1 to commemorate the shopping center’s 25th anniversary.

Members of the community, including city leaders, business owners, representatives of the Allen Chamber of Commerce and more, gathered at the retail center for a 25th anniversary ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as a performance by the Allen High School Varsity Drumline.

The specifics: The shopping center opened in October 2000 with a roster of retailers that has continued to grow, according to a news release. The outlets saw an expansion completed in 2018 that included additional retail space and amenities. Over 120 name-brand outlet stores can be found in the center now, including brands like Kate Spade New York, Coach, Nike Factory Store, Under Armour and more.

Get involved: As part of the 25th anniversary celebration, various events and promotions are planned throughout October.

Enea’s Pizzeria will serve New York-style pizza in Roanoke next month, owner Edmond Gjekaj said. In addition to pizza, the restaurant will serve garlic knots, calzones, chicken rolls, submarine sandwiches and cannoli!


The pizza is made using fresh ingredients, hand-tossed dough and sauce made from scratch, Gjekaj said. The pizzeria will serve big slices that are meant to be eaten on-the-go or folded in half like in Manhattan, he said.

Dua Trattoria is serving up Itailian and Mediterranean fare in Frisco.


Whether customers choose a classic Italian lasagna or a Balkan staple like ćevapi, co-owner Nik Vllasaliu said they can expect high-quality ingredients at a very reasonable price.


Vllasaliu opened the Frisco restaurant in 2023 with his brothers and co-owners, Billy and Louie Vllasaliu.
