ICYMI: Buc-ee's final plat approved, Kendall County allocates $11.25M in Prop A funds

From property purchases to the final approval of the Boerne Buc-ee’s plat, here are four government stories from Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch and Kendall County.

Kendall County moves forward with $11.25M Proposition A property purchase: Kendall County Commissioners on Dec. 23 approved the purchase of conservation easements and a property to be conserved through the use of Proposition A funds, which were approved by voters in 2022 to support countywide conservation efforts.

Around 310 acres of property at Guadalupe River Ranch were approved for purchase by county commissioners for around $11.25 million from Proposition A funds. Costs and total acreage will be specified following an inspection and survey period.

Minor renovation planned for Boerne H-E-B

H-E-B off Bandera Road in Boerne is gearing up for a minor renovation.

What’s happening? According to the listing, the facility will undergo a $250,000 alteration to approximately 325 square feet of the store.

The filing shows an estimated start date in February, with the project expected to last around three months.

Community Impact reached out to H-E-B for comment on the renovation/alteration, but received no further details on the scope of the project or whether the renovation would have an impact on shoppers or the store layout.

Bexar County forms Senior Justice Assessment Center to combat senior abuse

In a move to create a holistic and coordinated approach toward protecting the county’s senior population, the Bexar County Commissioners Court officially celebrated the creation of the Bexar County Senior Justice Assessment Center, or SJAC, Dec. 16.

In a nutshell: According to county documents, the SJAC is a county-led interagency task force designed to combat senior abuse. SJAC will meet weekly to review and discuss cases involving abuse, crime, exploitation or neglect of individuals age 65 years or older.

During the presentation, which celebrated the creation of the SJAC and the acceptance of the Victims of Crime Act, or VOCA, grant, totaling $186,755.99, Judge Veronica Vasquez said Bexar County has the highest Adult Protective Services intakes and completed investigations per capita in Texas, and that SJAC will provide a much needed role within the county.

According to county documents, the core team will meet weekly to review high-risk, high-needs cases in an effort to enhance communication and lead to improved outcomes for survivors.

UT Health San Antonio debuts cutting-edge Limb Optimization Program

UT Health San Antonio has launched the multidisciplinary Limb Optimization Program, which will deliver advanced care for individuals with congenital conditions, deformities or dysfunction due to trauma.

What you need to know: According to a news release, the program seeks to improve the quality of life and functional outcomes for patients by combining limb preservation, amputation care and reconstructive solutions. The program is the first in South Texas to offer osseointegration, a state-of-the-art procedure in which the prosthetic limb is directly attached to the skeleton. 

The program is led by Joseph Alderete, a retired army colonel and associate clinical professor in the department of orthopaedics at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT San Antonio.

The Limb Optimization Program is composed of a collaborative team of surgeons, rehabilitation specialists, prosthetists and researchers, with expertise in orthoplastics, behavioral health, nutrition, physical and occupational therapy, orthotics and prosthetics and translational research, the release states.
