With the weather warming up, many patios in Denton are available for families to enjoy a bite to eat, have a refreshing beverage and let their kids play. Here are three kid-friendly patios that offer entertainment, diverse menu options and a variety of beer and cocktail options.

Union Bear Brewing Co.
At the brewery's Denton location, children are welcome inside and on the patio. Inside the brewery, there are also two arcade games and a pool table. There is also a kids' menu with pasta, pizza and chicken tenders.

East Side Denton
While East Side operates as a bar, the expansive patio and food trucks make this space a kid-friendly destination until 9 p.m., when it becomes a 21-and-up spot.

Shuck Me
Known for its coastal seafood fare, the restaurant has a sand pit area and playground on its grounds, along with picnic-style outdoor seating.

Election News
Denton officials approve preliminary list of polling locations for May 2 election

City of Denton officials approved a list of early voting and election day polling locations at a March 3 city council meeting.

The general and special elections are scheduled for May 2, and early voting will run from April 20-28, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

The details: Denton ISD and Denton County elections must also approve the polling sites, according to city documents.

The early voting location suggestions are:

  • Denia Recreation Center
  • Denton Civic Center
  • Denton County Elections Administration
  • Denton Fire Station No. 7
  • Denton Wesley Foundation
  • MLK Jr. Recreation Center
  • North Branch Library 3020
  • North Lakes Recreation Center
  • Robson Ranch Clubhouse
  • South Branch Library
  • Texas Woman’s University

Some background: 
Several city offices are up for election, including mayor, District 1, District 2 and Place 5 at large.

Place 6 in Denton ISD is also up for election, with Denton District 1 council member Vicki Byrd running for the trustee spot against Southern Methodist University business professor Greg Petolick.

TOCA Social offers soccer-themed ‘eatertainment’ center in Grandscape

TOCA Social, a European interactive soccer-themed entertainment destination, recently opened its first American location at Grandscape in The Colony.

The gist: The venue has 20 playing boxes, which are semi-private spaces where guests can play games, eat and drink. Each space has an interactive digital screen with five soccer ball-oriented game options.

Quote of note: “You take turns [going] on to the playing area. It’s kind of like bowling, you're competing against each other in a fun and lighthearted way,” TOCA Social President Alex Harman, said. “If you can propel a ball forward, you can play."

I-35W frontage roads, Plano bridge repairs: See updates on 5 road projects in Dallas-Fort Worth

Plano bridge repairs 
Project
: Repairs to 29 bridges in Plano will address the surface of the bridges, including the deck and railings, as well as possible damage to structures underneath the bridges from wear and erosion.
Update: Work on the first bridge to be repaired, Custer Road at Spring Creek, began March 2.

  • Timeline: work anticipated to be completed by spring 2027
  • Cost: $4.2 million

I-35W frontage roads expansion
Project:
The work includes constructing frontage roads on I-35W from 0.7 miles south of FM 407 to FM 2449, according to Texas Department of Transportation documents.
Update: TxDOT is working to acquire right of way for the project, move utilities and finalize design plans. The project is planning to go out to bid for construction in December 2027.

  • Cost: $260.7 million
