Keller City Council approved the operating budget, capital improvement program and the tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27 at its regular Sept. 15 meeting.

The details: The budget total is $111.8 million, $582,090 more than the current fiscal year, according to the presentation at the meeting. The new fiscal year will start Oct. 1.

More than $81 million of the budget is tied to the general fund and the water and wastewater fund. The budget also included the previously approved Keller Development Corporation and Crime Control and Prevention District budgets.

The property tax rate of $0.300417 per $100 valuation is below the “no new revenue” rate and up slightly from last year’s rate of $0.28700 per $100 valuation.

What else? Residents will see a 4.75% rise in city water costs and a 3.5% increase in water and wastewater fees.

The annual average bill for 14,000 gallons of water will be $93.44, up $4.29 compared to the current fees. The average monthly bill for 6,000 gallons of sewer use will be $51.11, an increase of $1.73 per month, according to city documents.

The Rustic Cowboy Bar & Dance Hall held a soft opening in Fort Worth in September.

Owner Ned Brown, who also owns Shotzee’s Bar & Grill in Keller, provided a tour on Facebook of the renovations at the location before the opening.

The details: The country dance hall features a 1,300-square-foot dance floor, a pool table, a private room, mechanical bulls and two bars.

The business offers dance lessons Wednesday to Saturday with live music on Friday and Saturday, Brown said. He said dance lessons will be the Fort Worth Shuffle on Wednesday, two-step dancing on Friday and line dancing on Thursday and Saturday.

To strengthen consumer protections, the Texas Department of Insurance is asking state lawmakers to consider adjusting when new home and auto insurance rates are implemented.

What's happening: Texas currently operates under a "file-and-use" system, allowing insurance companies to begin using new rates immediately after they are filed, regardless of whether the TDI has reviewed them.

In a Sept. 14 letter detailing actions the department is taking to address Texas' high home insurance costs, Insurance Commissioner Amanda Crawford suggested that the legislature look into "adding a delay between a rate filing and its use in the market." Under the current system, if the TDI finds an issue with a new insurance rate, there is "limited" redress for affected policyholders if that rate is already in effect.

The background: Crawford's letter comes after Gov. Greg Abbott directed the TDI to take affordability-focused actions in an Aug. 24 letter.

Texans paid the nation's fourth-highest home insurance premiums at the end of 2025, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
