The Intrepid Thread is relocating in New Braunfels.

The details: The Intrepid Thread—which sells luxury fabrics and sewing machines—is relocating from Freiheit Village at 2165 Gabriel’s Place, Ste. 1113, to Corridor Commercial Center. The business is anticipated to open in its new location Jan. 15, Owner Julie Dueck said in an email to Community Impact.

Dueck said she opened inside The Mercer building in June 2024, and in November, they closed up shop to relocate.

“We specialize in subscription services sending out little packages of sewing bliss all over the country,” Dueck said in the email.

Digging deeper: Dueck said she is excited to welcome seamstresses and seamsters and create a friendly community atmosphere.

The Intrepid Thread’s name was inspired by Dueck’s father, who was stationed on the USS Intrepid.

What residents should know: A new mountain biking trail at McAllister Park called The Grove got its “finishing touches” on Dec. 14, according to a Facebook post from the Friends of McAllister Park, or FOMP.

Volunteers helped to construct portions of the trail, including planting vegetation, spreading mulch, laying down boulders and more.

FOMP is an independent, nonprofit organization that helps to fund and maintain projects at the park, according to its website.

The new trail is near the park’s multipurpose sports field, just outside the parking lot off Buckhorn Road.

More details: As a “flow” trail, The Grove contains a series of hills and is named after the native Texas Persimmon, common in the San Antonio area, according to an announcement from FOMP’s Facebook page.

That’s why Bizer and Porter opened up Favorite Neighbor in July, a wine bar that offers not only tastings but also a sense of community and trying new things.

“We kind of did this on a whim,” Porter said. “But so far, it’s been pretty fun."

Located inside a converted gas station at 494 N. Union Ave., Porter said she wanted to capture a rustic, minimal feel for the bar prior to opening.
