Community leaders and the public met Feb. 28 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Challenger 7 Memorial Park in Webster to celebrate the completion of $5.3 million in upgrades to enhance the park.
The details: The upgrades include a fully renovated boardwalk, new overlook pavilions, a floating kayak launch, boat ramp improvements and additional walking trails.
Why it matters: The ribbon-cutting was attended by dignitaries, including Adrian Garcia, Harris County Precinct 2 commissioner; Rahman Milton, executive director of the Office of the County Engineer; and Bernard Harris, the first African American astronaut to walk in space, according to the release.
The project: The project broke ground in February 2025 and was paid for by Harris County and a grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.
