League City sells TxDOT more land for $3.7M for Grand Parkway project

Just weeks after League City sold a parcel of land to the Texas Department of Transportation for the Grand Parkway project, city officials have approved the sale of another parcel of land for $3.7 million.

The details: League City City Council voted unanimously to sell 15.8 acres of land currently owned by the League City Patrons of the Park Foundation to TxDOT at its Feb. 12 meeting.

The backstory: Conceptualized in the early 1960s, the Grand Parkway is a proposed 180-mile circumferential highway that travels around the Greater Houston metro, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

The expansion project will extend the highway 14 miles from FM 646 in League City to south of FM 2403 in Alvin, TxDOT documents show.

Cosmetology, welding among new dual credit courses at Clear Creek ISD

Clear Creek ISD high school students have until Feb. 18 to enroll in new dual credit opportunities for the 2026-27 school year made available through partnerships with San Jacinto College and College of the Mainland, according to a Feb. 11 news release from the district.

“This exciting expansion reflects our continued commitment to prepare students for life beyond graduation,” Superintendent Karen Engle said in the release.

The details: The dual credit opportunities provide high school students with additional pathways to earn college credit and industry-based certifications while completing high school.

To enroll, students must meet the district’s dual credit requirements and complete the community college enrollment process, including any placement or testing requirements, according to the release.

The courses will take place at the partnering college campuses. Once enrolled, students are responsible for providing transportation.

Family-owned Mexican cafe holds grand opening in the Houston Heights

Alturas Mexican Cafe opened Feb. 6 at 2409 Airline Drive, Ste. 100, Houston, serving authentic, flavorful meals that reflect Mexican traditions and heritage. 

Founded by the Navarro family, the cafe is dedicated to preserving recipes passed down through generations, according to the website.

The menu features classic items such as enchiladas and street tacos, as well as more cultural dishes such as Pambazo, Milanesa and Quecas, which are fried corn tortilla quesadillas stuffed with melted cheese and protein.

Bellaire baker turns a life of travel into cakes inspired by the world’s flavors

From Central Asia to Southeastern Europe, baker Goha Dosmuratova finds inspiration for her homemade recipes from around the world.

After closing her bakery in Romania and moving to Texas in 2024, Dosmuratova opened a new shop at 6300 W. Loop S., Ste. 130, Bellaire, serving custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies.

“I'm a sweet tooth person,” Dosmuratova said. “I love desserts, I love cakes, and when you travel around the world ... and you don't like the taste, but you really want the cake, you're just trying to bake it yourself to make it perfect. So that's how I came up with my recipes.”

Certain Houston-area ZIP codes have significantly more home sales than a year ago, according to the Houston Association of Realtors ZIP Watch Report.

The gist: HAR on Feb. 6 released its report looking at where sales activity increased during the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

The details: According to HAR, an increase in sales often signals that:
  • More buyers are active in the area.
  • More homes are available and are selling.
  • The neighborhood is drawing renewed interest.
