Simone Biles opens Taste of Gold restaurant at IAH

Olympic gold medalist and Spring native Simone Biles celebrated the opening of her first restaurant, Taste of Gold, at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on March 24.

On the menu: Taste of Gold offers a menu of salads, sandwiches, salads, desserts and appetizers. Biles' favorite menu item, dubbed "Simone's Skewers," is available with chicken, steak, shrimp and vegetable options, per the release.

Quote of note: "As a frequent traveler, I am thrilled to partner with Athlete Playmaker Group to help create a place for people to relax and share meals during their travels through my hometown airport," Biles said in a statement. "Whether you're a fan of gymnastics, football or any sport, or just hungry for something yummy before or after your flight, I'd like to welcome you to Taste of Gold the way fans have welcomed me into their hearts over my career."

Check it out: Located in Terminal A near Gate A8, the restaurant is now open daily from 6 a.m.-9 p.m.

Here's the latest on 4 Lake Houston-area transportation projects

Check out the latest updates on four Harris County Precinct 3 transportation projects under construction or planned in the Lake Houston area.

Woodland Hills Drive, Teakwood Spring Drive traffic signal

  • Project: A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Woodland Hills and Teakwood Spring drives. The project aims to increase driver safety.
  • Update: This project is in the design phase and the construction start date has been moved up from 2027, Reid said.

Lakeshore subdivision drainage improvements
  • Project: Storm sewer and inlet additions will be installed along Elm Shores Drive in the Lakeshore subdivision. The project aims to increase drainage capacity and reduce flood risk throughout the neighborhood.
  • Update: This project has completed the design phase and is pending advertising for bids, Reid said.

Will Clayton Parkway sidewalk
  • Project: A sidewalk will be constructed along Will Clayton Parkway between Tabor Brook Drive and Garbit Drive. The project aims to enhance pedestrian mobility.
  • Update: Previously expected to begin construction in the fourth quarter of 2025, Reid said utility conflicts have delayed construction.

Houston rental data shows more single-family homes available on the market

Houston’s single-family rental homes saw an 6.8% increase in leased properties compared to last February, according to the Houston Association of Realtors’ February Rental Market Update released March 18.

By the numbers: Alongside the higher number of leased single-family homes, the average lease price declined by 0.6% compared to last year. The number of days on market for homes, however, increased, jumping to 50 days compared to 44 days last year, per the report.

What else: The townhome and condominium market saw some movement this past month as well. There were 569 properties listed, representing a 4.2% increase from the 546 units last February. The lease price also dropped by 3.6%, and the days on market increased to 56 days, up from 52 the previous February, per the report.
