Five newcomers are running for New Caney ISD's board of trustees Position 7 race in the Nov. 4 election.

Current situation: Larry Buford, Kristina Haggard, David Hagler, Gretta Rogne and Stacey Kiki Shipley are vying for the Position 7 seat in November’s election. Incumbent Beth Prykryl opted not to run for reelection.

What else? Trustee Ty Trout filed to run for reelection in Position 6 and is currently unopposed. Each member of the board of trustees is elected to an at-large position for three years in a nonpartisan election.

Three council positions are up for grabs during the Nov. 4 election, including Position 2, Position 4 and mayor. However, Mayor Chris Parr will retain his position after running unopposed.

Some context: The Roman Forest City Council is made up of five council members and a mayor, according to the city’s website. Both council members and the mayor serve staggered, two-year terms.

According to the city’s website, prospective City Council members need to have lived in Texas for at least one year and in Roman Forest for at least six months before filing to run. Mayoral candidates are required to have lived in Roman Forest for at least one year prior to filing.

Shouting Grounds Coffee Co. launches mobile ordering in New Caney

Shouting Grounds Coffee Co. began offering mobile ordering service Oct. 21, coffee shop officials announced via social media.

Some context: As previously reported by Community Impact, Shouting Grounds Coffee Co. opened in February and is owned by Douglas and Katie Carroll.

On the menu: The coffee shop offers a menu of espresso-based beverages, hot and iced tea, refreshers, frappes and smoothies as well as scratch-made pastries with gluten-free options available, per the website.

How it works: Shouting Grounds patrons can now place mobile orders online and schedule a pickup time in advance.

Property taxes, bail rules, water funding: All 17 Texas propositions projected to pass

As of press time, all 17 constitutional amendments on the Texas ballot were poised to become law. The state propositions with the most support would either expand property tax exemptions or prohibit new taxes, while voters also favored measures aimed at funding infrastructure and research.

The overview: Some of the state propositions on the ballot included:

  • Proposition 1: new funding to support the Texas State Technical College System
  • Proposition 3: tighter restrictions on when Texas judges can grant bail for felony offenses
  • Proposition 4: $20 billion for water supply projects and infrastructure
  • Proposition 9: a $125,000 property tax exemption for businesses
  • Propositions 11 and 13: expanded property tax exemptions for Texas homeowners
  • Proposition 14: $3 billion to create a state dementia research institute
