Bryan ISD trustees unanimously approved a proposed 2026-27 tax rate Aug. 10 and called for a November election that could raise the district’s maintenance and operations revenue by about $5.5 million annually.

What’s happening: The voter-approval tax rate election, or VATRE, will ask Bryan ISD voters Nov. 3 whether to approve an increase to the district’s maintenance and operations tax rate. The additional revenue would help fund employee compensation, student programs and safety and security.

The proposed total tax rate would increase from $0.9469 to $0.9668 per $100 of taxable property value if voters approve the VATRE.

What voters need to know: A VATRE allows voters to decide whether a school district can raise its M&O tax rate above the amount otherwise allowed under state law.

Bryan ISD’s current M&O rate is $0.6769 per $100 of taxable value. The district is proposing an M&O rate of about $0.6968, a roughly 2-cent increase.

What happens next: If rejected by voters, BISD will continue with its compensation plan approved in June.

College Station City Council will consider the city’s proposed 2026-27 property tax rate, development plans for nearly 50 acres and millions of dollars in city projects during its Aug. 13 meeting.

What you need to know: The city’s current property tax rate is $0.511872 per $100 of taxable property value.

According to city documents, the city has calculated two rates for the upcoming fiscal year: 

• No-new-revenue rate: $0.506934

• Voter-approval rate: $0.537862

City Council will consider the proposed tax rate during the meeting and whether to call a public hearing on the rate.

As previously reported, final budget and tax rate adoption is scheduled for Aug. 27, with the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.

• $58,100 increase to Lincoln Center Area construction

• A $3.66 million contract for tree-trimming

• $221,182 purchase of custom benches for the Patricia Street Promenade

One more thing: Two proposed developments will also come before the council for rezoning.

• 12.43 acres along Rock Prairie Road West

• 35 acres near Victoria Avenue and William D. Fitch Parkway

Several businesses geared toward, dining, drinking and treats opened in the Bryan and College Station area recently and several more are expected to open, relocate or expand in the coming months. Lucky Goat in Bryan is the next in line to open. This list is not comprehensive.

The Executive Club at George Bush Intercontinental Airport has recently completed a full renovation, Houston Airport System officials announced in an Aug. 4 news release.

What's new? Operated by SSP America, the IAH Executive Club debuted a new modern look this summer featuring new furniture, fresh paint, updated decor and redesigned seating areas. Per the release, the lounge also features a central food and beverage area that includes buffet service and a dedicated bar.

Additional amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, a meeting room and televisions, snacks, beverages and reading material.
