Richardson City Council member Dan Barrios announces resignation for Congress bid

Richardson City Council member Dan Barrios announced his resignation from council on July 13 in order to devote his time to his campaign for U.S. Congress. Barrios said his resignation will become effective upon the appointment of his successor by council.

The overview: Barrios announced his candidacy in December for District 32 of the U.S. House, which includes Richardson and Plano. Barrios won the Democratic primary in March and will face Republican Jace Yarbrough in the November general election.

Barrios said he structured his resignation to ensure continuity during the upcoming budget approval process and to provide sufficient time for a “thoughtful appointment process that allows for public input.”

Quote of note: “Serving the people of Richardson as a member of the Richardson City Council has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Barrios said at the council meeting. “After thoughtful consideration, I have decided to resign from the Richardson City Council so that I may devote my full time and attention to my campaign to the United States Congress.”
