Gemini Urgent Care serves with affordability, efficiency in mind

With a goal to provide patients with same-day care with zero wait times at little to no cost, Gemini Urgent Care’s Medical Director Dr. Sajid Khan was led to open the doors to Gemini Urgent Care to serve Houston’s southeast area.

The gist: After opening his first location in Clear Lake 2023, Khan opened another location in Friendswood in 2025, and most recently, a new location in League City in April.

Diving in deeper: Khan holds experience as a board certified emergency medicine physician for nearly 20 years. With that, he noted emergency rooms are “often overcrowded, expensive and designed for true life-threatening emergencies.”

“This leads to excessively long wait times for patients with urgent or routine medical needs,” he said. “On the other side, patients struggle to get a same-day appointment with their primary care doctor, especially for unexpected illnesses or injuries. With Gemini Urgent Care, our patients love having the ability to walk in same-day, have zero wait time, have little to no cost, and be on their way.”

Sweet June’s Bake Shoppe closes storefront bakery

Sweet June’s Bake Shoppe closed its storefront location in Pearland, according to a June 12 social media post from the business.

The bakery, which opened its brick and mortar shop in February, will continue operating as a home-based cottage bakery offering curbside pickup and delivery services.

What you need to know: Sweet June’s leased space with a shared commercial kitchen and believed the necessary permits were already in place, according to the post. However, subsequent inspections identified unresolved property- and building-related compliance issues that predated their tenancy.

The bakery said it passed its own inspections, but was ultimately informed that its permits would not move forward until the property issues were resolved, leading to the closure of its storefront.

In their own words: “This is not the outcome we hoped for, and we certainly feel disappointed,” bakery officials said in the post. “We are choosing to view this not as the end of our story, but as the beginning of a new chapter.”

The Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County released the results of the 2026 Point-in-Time Count & Survey, which involves volunteers counting the number of individuals experiencing homelessness over three days across Fort Bend, Harris, and Montgomery counties.

This year's count took place in mid-February, with the results being released June 12.

The results are in: The report found that a total of 3,321 people were experiencing homelessness on a single night in February, with 2,051 being sheltered individuals and 1,270 being unsheltered individuals.

The majority of homeless individuals were accounted for in Harris County, with 53.9% of sheltered individuals and 35.8% of unsheltered individuals coming from the most populous county in Texas.

The numbers are consistent with the figures from the 2025 report, which showed that approximately 3,325 individuals were homeless across the three counties.
