New day care, retail building proposed along Jordan Road in McKinney

Planning is underway for a new retail building and day care facility located at the southwest corner of Virginia Parkway and Jordan Road.

Current situation: McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-2 to recommend approval of a zoning request for the development during a Feb. 10 meeting. Commission Chair Deidre Woodard and commission member Charles Wattley opposed the motion to approve.

The action will be forwarded to McKinney City Council for final action March 3, according to a city document.

Zooming in: If approved by council members, nearly 6 acres would be rezoned as a “C2” commercial district. Plans for the site include a 14,630-square-foot day care facility and a 22,400-square-foot building with restaurant and retail uses, according to a letter of intent.

According to a site plan submitted to the city, the retail building is planned to front the corner of Virginia Parkway and South Jordan Road. The day care facility will be located south of the retail building along Jordan Road.
