Officials with Brooklyn Pizzeria will host a soft opening Aug. 18 followed by a grand opening Aug. 22 for the new Kingwood location, General Manager Jordan Mintz confirmed via email Aug. 17.

The details: Mintz noted the new store will deliver to the entire Kingwood area, including along Northpark Drive, according to previous coverage by Community Impact.

Mintz also noted the new location will include a family-friendly environment.

Brooklyn Pizzeria offers a variety of Italian dishes, including brick-oven New York-style pizza, pasta, wings, appetizers, subs, salads and calzones, Mintz said.

Humble City Council members approved a three-year, roughly $158,000 agreement with Blue Iron Technologies for the continued usage of the company’s cybersecurity platform.

The details: Council members approved the agreement during the council’s Aug. 13 regularly scheduled meeting.

City Manager Jason Stuebe said the agreement will serve as a three-year renewal of the city's existing Varonis Data Security Platform software licensing, maintenance and support services to maintain the security and integrity of the city's information systems and sensitive data.

“This covers us as our primary safety net against malware,” Stuebe said.

What else? In addition to protecting sensitive information, Stuebe said the software will monitor access to city data, detect abnormal user activity and support the city's cybersecurity, compliance and auditing requirements.

Houston is on a shortlist of host cities for the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup after city officials said they hosted a successful men's tournament. 

The big picture: At the Aug. 12 city council meeting, officials with the Harris County Houston Sports Authority announced that the city will bid on several upcoming major sporting events, including the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2031 Men’s Rugby World Cup and several NCAA championships.

“We’re already working on what’s next: continuing to drive sports tourism and ensuring that Houston keeps that title of having hosted more major sporting events than any other city in North America,” said Ryan Walsh, CEO of the HCHSA.

Walsh said after factoring in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the HCHSA will have delivered more than $4 billion in economic impact in the region.

One more thing: FIFA officials will announce the host cities for the 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cups at a later date this year.
